Guitars for sale on eBay
17/07/08 14:37
I'm selling a couple of
guitars. Not really a bad case of
G(uitar)A(cquisition)S(yndrome), more a refining of the
set that I actually use. These two are both excellent
instruments that I've set-up and maintained myself. The
first will be up on eBay in fixed price format from
Tuesday the 22nd of July. My eBay 'name' is
orefeildneil.
The first is a very nice Hagstrom Super Swede Reissue in amber sunburst finish. Barely used and as new with an intonation set up. Often I'll change the pickups on a new guitar but with these I didn't need to - they're very good as they are - and there is a good coil tap mini switch. All mahogany body with a maple cap with a flame maple veneer. Quite heavy as you would expect a Les Paul type to be. Where it differs is that the Super Swedes have a Tele/Strat scale length of 25.5 inches which gives them a bit more snap. The tuners are good as well. Overall I think these instruments are THE bargain of the last two years. Comes with a good Hagstrom hard shell case. All in all a very good deal at $525.00.

The second will be up on eBay a few days afterwards. It will either be a the Warmoth stratocaster I'd initially mentioned here or a mint condition Gibson 339 semi-acoustic. I'll decide over the next few days and post here before eBay.
Sample shipping costs: Canada Post XpressPost - within central Canada $25 - $30
: FedEx ground: - to Vancouver $50.00 ( 4 business days), Eastern and Central U.S. $60.00 (3 business days - you'll probably pay import duty as well) and finally West Coast U.S., $70.00. (again remember import duties extra).
I'm happy to ship anywhere else but the shipping costs tend to be a lot...e.g. in the $200.00 range for the UK. Guess that's why we always seemed to pay so much more for gear over there.
I'm also selling an Atomic Reactor 112 tube combo for PODxT. It sounds awesome but it's heavy and a pickup only item so it's on Toronto Craigslist here, http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/msg/765672841.html.

Douglas Amplifiers at Paul's Boutique
14/04/08 14:52
My friends, Paul and
Jeremy at Paul's Boutique in Kensington Market here in
Toronto have a started an amplifier company. They are
making a really great sounding point to point wired 5
watt Class A amplifier at a very reasonable price. It's
a combination of a tube guitar amp and a high quality
recording preamp in one package. I've tried one and it
does indeed sound great. Highly recommended. Check out
the specs at their website here. http://www.douglasamps.com
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions Tabs added to the site
13/04/08 18:23
Been getting an increasing
number of requests for Tab charts of my guitar parts
for Commotions songs. So, thanks to Ray and everyone
else who asked, I've added some guitar parts for a few
tunes to the TABS
page.
Bloomsday Revisited - Original Demos on Download Page
29/03/08 23:41
Listening through to some Bloomsday demos at the
weekend for the first time in a long while. The group
was, myself - guitars, Chris Thomson - words, voice and
guitars and Stephen Irvine - drums. Mark Bedford of
Madness occasionally played bass and Douglas Muirden
occasionally played keys. We signed to Island and
released one album called Fortuny but as is sometimes
the case I think the demos were better. So I've just
posted 5 of them on the
DOWNLOADS
page.
Chris and I often talk about another collaboration and we are at it again so, you never know.

Robert Forster New Song - Pandanus
28/03/08 13:09
I just downloaded Robert Forster's song Pandanus for
his upcoming album The Evangelist. It's available as a
digital download from his recording company site. The
album just got a 5 star review in Uncut magazine in the
UK. It's out end of April. Here's the link for the
download,
http://store.yeproc.com/album.php?id=13323
and here's a link to RF's Evangelist page on his
site, http://www.robertforster.net/rfevangelist.html.
This is Robert's first post Go-Betweens release
and the song is really
good.
I toured with Robert, Robert Vickers and Grant McLennan (the other Go-Betweens on the bus) a few years back. Robert Vickers and I were playing together in Lloyd Cole's backing group and Robert Forster and Grant McLennan were opening as an acoustic duo. I have many great memories from that outing and news of Grant's passing in 2006 was shocking and saddening. I'll always remember his warmth as a person and his love of life, literature and songs. A great songwriter with friends all over the world. He is very fondly remembered.
